The People Running BSTL

Ship agency is a relationship business. It matters who you actually deal with. Below are the people who own the commercial, operational, and HSEQ sides of the business — and who are reachable when a principal has a question that deserves an answer from the top.

How the Operation Is Structured

BSTL is run by a small executive team deliberately. We've found that the moment a shipping agency gets too layered to let a principal reach the commercial director directly, something is lost — speed of decision, ownership of problems, and the credibility that comes from a named person being accountable. The three leaders below are the points of accountability for the three things principals care about most: commercial decisions, operational execution, and compliance posture.

Beyond the leadership, the team splits into desks for Ship Agency, Husbandry, Logistics, and HSEQ, with each desk staffed by experienced operators on rotational coverage so there is always someone who knows your file on duty. On any live port call, one of these operators is your single point of contact, and one of the three leaders below is available for escalation.

The Team

Three Seats. Three Clear Remits.

No floating titles, no invented roles. Each leader owns a defined part of the business and is accountable for it end-to-end.

Managing Director

Managing Director

Chief Executive

Sets commercial direction, approves new client relationships, and owns the standard. More than three decades in West African maritime; personally reachable on material disputes, panel reviews, and any decision that affects a principal relationship. If an issue has escalated past the operations desk, it lands here.

Operations Director

Operations Director

Ship Agency, Husbandry, Logistics

Runs the desks. Responsible for port call execution across Tema and Takoradi, coverage rotas that keep the phone answered, and the quality of every disbursement account that leaves the building. If a live operation is going sideways, this is the person coordinating the recovery.

HSEQ Manager

HSEQ Manager

Safety, Environment, Quality

Owns the compliance, audit, and drill programme. Keeps our HSEQ documentation at the standard oil & gas principals require of their panel agents, and maintains the relationships with authorities, inspectors, and safety auditors. The person who answers when a client's HSE team asks for evidence.

A Note on Escalation

Most of the work does not need executive involvement — that's the point of having a well-run operations desk. But when it does, the path is short: desk lead, then Operations Director, then Managing Director, with HSEQ Manager pulled in immediately on anything safety- or compliance-related. No tickets, no layers. A principal sending a direct email to any of the three above on a live issue will get a response from that person, not from a communications function.
